Based on the feedback we got in response to the Chance the Rapper post a few days back, I’ve decided to start a series where I will profile an up-and-comer every Saturday. These will be artists who you may or may not have heard of, but who haven’t fully burst onto the mainstream stage as of yet. Basically, people I enjoy listening to and want others to hear. This new series will be called Underground Kings.
Lately, I’ve been bumping a lot of Chuuwee’s music. Chuuwee hails from Sacramento, CA, and is currently distributing his music through Amalgam Digital. Some might recall a young man by the name of Curren$y building his buzz through the same digital media platform a few years ago. Anyway, Chuuwee can definitely spit with the best of them. He reminds me a bit of J. Cole at times with his subject matter and delivery, though lyrically I think Chuuwee is actually a notch better than Mr. Cole. His flow is very polished, and I’m a big fan of the beat selection. I’m expecting big things from this cat in the near future, so be on the lookout, and go ahead and enjoy some of the music below. I’ve included the names of a few of my favorite songs and a music video as well as a download link for Chuuwee’s latest release, Crown Me King.
Songs to hear: The C.R.E.A.T.S., Past…Tense, Slow Down, Like This, Cold World, Day and Night, Rule the World, Politics as Always
